Syngenta gives lectures at the IBS 2008


The 13th International Biotechnology Symposium & Exhibition (IBS-2008) was held from October 13 to 17, 2008 in Dalian, China. The IBS series is the premier international event in biotechnology, which is held every four years on a different continent.

Representatives of Syngenta attended this conference, and invited lectures were given by Martin Clough, Head of Syngenta Biotech, and Xun Wang, Head of Biotech R&D for APAC (photo). Syngenta also ran a booth and providing information highlighting the company brand.

The overall theme of IBS-2008 was "Biotechnology for the Sustainability of Human Society". Nine theme sections and three special sections covered Medical, Agricultural, Industrial, Marine, Environmental and Food Biotechnologies, Systems Biology, Tissue Engineering & Cell Cultivation, as well as Biosafety, Bioeconomy, international collaboration, education and teaching, and the biotech industry in China/Asia.

Over 2000 delegates from academia, industry, and government attended. In five days, they enjoyed eight plenary lectures, over 350 section lectures and more than 1800 abstracts from over 65 countries, as well as a taste of Chinese culture.

IBS 2008 offered a unique opportunity for a critical examination of milestone achievements in biotechnology. It also enabled valuable discussion of how biotechnology can contribute to global sustainability in the 21st century.
