Our purpose

As Syngenta's sixth global Research and Technology Center, SBC (Syngenta Biotechnology China) was established in Beijing Zhongguancun Life Science Park in early 2008, making Syngenta the first foreign agribusiness to set up its biotech R&T institution in China. SBC is going to employ up to 200 scientific and technical personnel, when its state-of-the-art lab facilities are established and put into use in 2010.

With a global scope, SBC's research focus includes early-stage evaluation of native and genetically modified traits for key crops such as corn and soy, in the areas of yield improvement, drought resistance and disease control, and will complement Syngenta's biotech research activities in the U.S.

Working closely with Chinese academic laboratories, Syngenta is determined to contribute its over twenty years of experience and expertise in biotech research to the growth of China's agriculture, by promoting communication and mutual learning at the international level, speeding up the commercialization and industrialization of biotech research achievements and helping growers in China and around the world increase crop yields to meet the world’s growing demand for food, feed and fuel.
